How to Set Up the Server for iOS Devices and Download Shared Files on the Server
To Share data between different devices, a server is needed. You will have to download the server program on your computer first. Install the server program on your computer and use it as the server for connecting all other devices around the household.
In order to make this work, all devices, including the server, have to be connected to the same network. Usually if you are using your own home network and all the devices are connected to it via Wi-Fi, then all devices will be under the same network.
To share data with other devices, first you need to set up the server. After downloading and installing the server program on your computer, open it and follow the instructions below to set it up.
Set up the Server
On the main interface of the program, click on the Settings button in the top right-hand corner.
The DeviceName is the name of your PC as well as the server. You can set password for connecting to the server.
Click Transfer settings under Basic settings on the left side of the Settings dialog box and you would see the default File Location that is used to store all the shared and backup files. Click the button next to the File Location box to change it.
After setting things up on the computer front, here’s what you need to do before you can share data on your phone.
Connect your device to the Server
Connect to the Wi-Fi network that your server is in and launch AirShareUp on your device.
On the interface of the app, click on the downward triangle button and you should be able to see the name of the server. Tap on it to connect to it.
After connecting to the server, you can find the server under Shared List.
Repeat the above two steps on other devices to connect them to the server. Afterwards, you would see all other devices connected to the server under the Shared List as well.
Tap on one of the devices to check out the videos, music and photos it’s currently sharing with other devices.
To download the media files to your device, tap on the Download button on the file. To check out other media files the device is sharing, tap the Video or Music buttons on the top.
How to Upload Your Media Files to PC from Your Device to Share with Other Devices
Here’s how to share your media files with other devices. When you share your files, they will be uploaded to and stored on the server. So remember to launch the AirShareUp program on your PC first and connect your device to the server before sharing.
Tap My Shared on the top and then click the Add file button on the right side or the button in the center to select media files you want to share.
You can choose to add Music, Image or Video to the server to share with other devices
The chosen files will be uploaded to the server immediately after you tap on the Done button. You can check out the upload status by clicking the Transfer button.
After the files are uploaded to the server, tap the My Shared button again from the main interface to check out the files you are currently sharing with other devices. Tap Video and Music on the top to check out the videos and music files you are sharing.
To share more files, tap on the button on the right side. The upload status will be shown in the Transfer tab.
Find Shared Files on the Server
To find the files you are sharing on the server. Open the AirShareUp program on your computer, click Device Upload on the left and then click on the name of your device. All devices that are currently connected to the server or were connected to the server will be listed under Device Upload. Devices with grayed-out device icons are currently disconnected to the server. And devices with green icons are current connected to the server. Click on the name of your device and then move your mouse onto Shared Files and you will see 3 options: Picture, Music and Video. Choose either one of them to check out the related files you are sharing on your device.
There’s a folder icon on the right side of the every file. Click on it to see the file in folder.
The files you are sharing will be stored on the server, but if you deleted them from the app, the files on the server will also be deleted. So if you want to keep the files shared by other devices on your computer, you should copy them to your hard drive before they are deleted from the devices that are sharing the files.
How to Share Media Files on Your PC with Other Devices
Other than sharing data on an iOS/Android device, you can also share data on your PC. The data shared on your PC can be accessed and downloaded on all devices connected to the server. So AirShareUp can also work as a wireless data transfer program to help you transfer data between your mobile handsets and PC wirelessly. Here’s how to share media files on PC and download them on your iOS/Android device.
Share Media Files on PC
Follow the steps below to share data on PC.
On the interface, click PC Share on the left and three tabs would appear: Picture, Music and Video. To share pictures, click the Picture tab and then click the Add button on top of the file list and select the pictures you want to share from the Open File dialog box.
The procedure of sharing music and video files are basically the same as sharing pictures. Just tap the related tab on the left and click the Add button on top of the file list to add media files to the program for sharing. And then you would be able to download those shared media files on your iOS devices that are connected to the server.
Download Media Files from PC
After sharing needed media files on PC, you can download them to your devices in the AirShareUp app easily. Here’s how:
Make sure that you’ve opened the AirShareUp program on your computer and then launch the AirShareUp app on your device. Turn on Wi-Fi to connect to the server and make sure that your PC and device are connected to the same network.
On the interface of AirShareUp app, click the downward triangle button to see all the servers that are using the same network. Tap on the right server to connect to it. When your device is successfully connected to the server, you can see the name of the server under Shared list.
Tap on the server to check out the media files it’s sharing.
When checking out the images on the server, you can also tap the Video and Music buttons to see the video and music files being shared on the server. Click the Download button on a file to download it to your device.
The downloading files can be found in the Transfer tab. Click the Transfer button to open the Transfer tab. When it finishes downloading, tap the Downloaded button at the bottom to view downloaded files.
How to Use the Backup Feature on iOS Devices
The Backup feature of the program allows you to perform automatic and manual backup of the data on your iOS device to the server and they won’t be shared with other people. Currently the backup feature can only back up Videos and Photos on your iOS Device. Remember to open the AirShareUp computer program first before you start the backup process.
Manual Backup
Here’s how to perform manual backup.
Tap the Backup tab at the bottom, and then tap Click to Backup your Media. Select either IMAGE or VIDEO to select image or video files to upload and back up to the server.
Note: It’ll take $6 to activate the video backup feature. After activating the video backup feature, you can select and back up your videos like you did with the photos.
Auto-Backup
Here’s how the auto-backup feature works: After turning it on in Settings, every time you connect to the server, the photos and videos on your device would be backed up to the server automatically. If you have two or more pictures that are exactly the same in your camera roll, then only one picture would be backed up.
Tap on the My Backup button from the top of the Server tab. If you’ve activated Auto-backup before, you would see the files you previously backed up in it.
To activate auto backup, tap the Settings button at the bottom and then tap Backup Options. Then choose to activate Picture Backup or Video Backup or both. Tap Finish after activating auto-backup and the auto-backup process will start immediately if you’ve chosen to activate them. It’ll take you $6 to activate the Video Backup feature.
After activating auto-backup, the grayed-out folder icon on the Auto Backup option will turn orange. Tap the Transfer button on the right to check out the progress of the backup process.
Check Out the Backup on the Server
To check out the backup of your pictures and photos on the server, launch the AirShareUp program on your computer and then select your device from the Device Upload list. And you would see the BackUpFiles option. Move your mouse over to it and there will be two options: BackUpPicture and BackUpVideo.
Click on them to check out the backed-up files. Files that are backed up automatically will be stored in the AutoBackup folder, double-click it to check them out. Note: If you deleted the backup from the AirShareUp app on your device, the backup on the server will also disappear. You can click the Folder icon on the right of every file to open them in the File Explorer and copy them to a new folder on your hard drive to store them on your PC safely.
How to Save the Downloaded Media Files in AirShareUp on Your iOS Device to the Photos
The downloaded videos and photos can be saved to Photos app on your iOS/Android devices for viewing and playback without opening AirShareUp. Note that music can’t be saved to the music app and only MP4 videos can be saved to Camera Roll.
Save photos to Camera Roll
Launch the program and then tap the Downloaded button at the bottom to view the files you’ve downloaded to your device. There are two ways to save downloaded pictures to the Camera Roll.
One is to long press one photo, select the photos you want to save to the Camera Roll, click More at the bottom and tap Save To Camera Roll. This method is best for saving multiple photos to the Camera Roll at the same time.
The second method is tap on the picture directly to preview it and then tap the Save button in the bottom right-hand corner.
Save Videos to Camera Roll
Open AirShareUp, tap Downloaded at the bottom and then tap VIDEO on the top to check out the videos you’ve downloaded. To save the video to your Camera Roll, tap on the menu button on the video you need and tap Save to Camera Roll.
Open the files you’ve downloaded with another program
AirShareUp also allows you to open the downloaded media files with other apps that support them.
To open the downloaded media files with another app, tap the Menu button on each file to call out a popup menu, and then tap Send to Other Apps and choose the app you want to view or play the file with. This method can be applied on all three kinds of media files (Music, Video and Photos).
How to Share Data from Your PC for Android Devices and Download Files Shared on the Server
If you’ve set up the server program on your computer, you can also share media files on your computer with the connected devices. Below is how to share media files on your hard drive with your mobile devices and how to download them on your devices.
Share Data on PC with Android Devices
On the main interface of AirShareUp, click PCShare from the top of the left sidebar to display 3 more options:Picture, Music, Video.
To share video files, click Video and on the right side of the sidebar, click the Add button in the upper-left of the blank area.
Choose the video you want to share from the Open File window.
The videos will be listed on the file list.
The procedure for choosing photos and music files to share are basically the same as choosing videos. So follow the instructions above to select photos and music to share if you need.
Download Media Files Shared on PC to Your Android Devices
All devices connected to the server would be able to download the shared files from PC. Here’s how to download media files shared on PC on your Android device.
Make sure that the server program is opened on your computer and the device is connected to the same network as your server has.
On your Android device, open AirShareUp and tap the button to display the server list and tap on the server with the files you want to download to connect to the server.
If your device’s connected to the server successfully, you can find the server under Desktop Devices. Tap on the server to check out the files that’s currently being shared on it.
By default, you will first see the images shared on the server, you can check out the videos and music files by clicking the IMAGE button in the upper-right of the file list and tap on VIDEO or MUSIC on the following menu. To download the files to your device, directly click the Download button on the target file.
Tap the Transfer tab at the bottom of the app to check out the download status. After the files are downloaded to your device, tap View History to check them out.
How to Set Up AirShareUp for Android Devices to Share Media Files between Different Devices
In order to share media files between different devices, you will need to first set up the server for the sharing process. Download the server program and then install it on your computer. Below is how to set it up.
To make file sharing possible between different devices, all devices, including the server, need to be under the same network. If you only use one home network in your household, connect all devices to it, and they will all be on the same network.
After installing the server program on your computer, follow the instructions below to set the computer up as the server.
Set up the server
Launch AirShareUp and from the main interface, then click the Settings button in the top-right corner.
Device Name shows the name of your computer, which is currently being used as the server. There’s the password box below for you to set password for other devices when connecting to it. You can also change the language of the program by clicking the Language drop-down menu.
From the left side of the current pop-up window, click Transfer settings and you will see the File Location box. All the files shared on Android and iOS devices will be uploaded to the server(a.k.a. your computer) first so you need to select a folder to store the shared files. To reset the file location, click the button next to the File Location box.
That’s all the setting you need to go through on your computer. Now you can head to the next part and set things up on your Android devices.
Connect your Android device to the server
Connect to your home network via Wi-Fi and then open AirShareUp on your Android device. Click this button to see the list of all the available servers. If you’ve installed the server program on multiple computers, there might be multiple servers shown on this list. Find the one with the name of the server you want to connect to and tap on it to connect to that server.
The server you’ve connected to can be found under Desktop Devices.
You can connect all your Android devices to the server by repeating the above steps on them. Other Android devices that have been connected to the same server can be found under Mobile Devices.
You can check out the videos, music files and photos shared by other devices by tapping on the name of the devices under Mobile Devices. To download a file from that device, just tap the Download button on that file.
You can share videos, music files and photos with other devices as well as download them from other devices. To check out the media files that are shared on other devices, tap the IMAGE button on the left side of the Search box to display VIDEO and MUSIC options and tap on one of them.
How to Share Media Files on Your Android Device with Other Devices
Before you start to share videos, music and photos with other devices, make sure the server program is running on your computer as the files you’ve chosen to share will be uploaded to the server and the whole sharing process will rely on the server.
To start sharing media files on your device, first tap on the My Shared button at the bottom of the interface.
Tap the Add file sign in the center or the Add File button in the upper-right corner to add media files to the program.
After choosing the files to share with other devices, tap the button shown in the picture below and tap on VIDEO, MUSIC, or IMAGE to check out the related files you are currently sharing with others.
To add more media files for sharing, click the Add File button in the upper-right corner and tap on the kind of file you want share to select files from your device. The new files will also be uploaded to the server first and you can check out the uploading status by tapping on the Transfer tab at the bottom of the interface.
Find Shared Files on the Server
As is mentioned before, all the files on your Android device that you’ve chosen to share with others will be uploaded to the server first. So if you want, you can find the shared files on your computer.
To find the shared files on your computer, first click the Device Upload option and you will see all the devices that have had files uploaded to the server. If you see a device with a grey-out icon, it means the device is currently disconnected to the server. Click on the device that has the file you need and you will see two tabs appear on the right side, namely Backup Files and Share Files. Move your mouse onto the Share Files tab and 3 more options will appear, namely Picture, Music and Video. Click on one of them to check out the related files that the device is currently sharing.
You can find a folder icon on the right side of each file, click on it to show the file in folder.
The files you’ve chosen to share with others will be stored on the server. If you step sharing the files on your Android device, they will also be removed from the server. So if you want to keep the shared files on your computer, you should copy them to your hard drive before they are removed.
